Fellow riders of the Millet Central Alberta Cycling Group,
Imagine rolling out of your campsite onto quiet lakeside paths, pedaling past aspen and spruce with the water glinting beside you, then settling in for a relaxed café stop in a small Alberta town before exploring a scenic wildlife trail the next day. No racing, no pressure—just good company, easy exploration, and the simple joy of being on two wheels in a beautiful park.
This free, laid-back camping-and-cycling weekend at Long Lake Provincial Park is exactly that kind of event. We arrive Friday afternoon, camp together, and roll out Monday morning. Circuit Cycle & Sports (our group host) has both an RSVP form and a Join The Group form ready on their website—whether you’re already a member or thinking about becoming one, this is a perfect chance to connect, ride casually, and make new trail friends. Spots are limited by campsite availability, so claim yours soon.
Event Schedule / Itinerary
- Friday – Arrival & Easy Exploration
Arrive at the campsite by 2:00 PM and settle in. We rally at 4:20 PM for our first short, fun ride right from the campground. We’ll explore the paved Shoreline Trail (approximately 2–3.5 km one way along the lake) and connecting short multi-use paths in the park. Expect a relaxed, social pace—perfect for stretching the legs after travel and getting a feel for the area. Total riding roughly 6–10 km depending on how much we wander.
- Saturday – Campground to Boyle Café Ride
Rally at 10:30 AM. We ride from the campground out to Highway 831 and north into the village of Boyle (approximately 20–22 km one way / 40–44 km round trip). Our turnaround and reward stop is the Peggy’s Bistro. This cozy local spot serves homemade-style sandwiches, soup, coffee, and lattes in a friendly small-town atmosphere, often with crafts and gifts on the side. It’s an ideal place to refuel, chat, and enjoy a true Alberta café pause before the return ride. Casual pace throughout—plenty of time to stop for photos or a water break.
- Sunday – White Earth Trail Scenic Ride
Rally at 10:30 AM. We load bikes into vehicles and drive the short distance to the White Earth Trail trailhead near Campground Loop F. From there we ride the White Earth Trail in the adjacent Natural Area—a 17 km path through varied habitats rich in plants and wildlife. Riders can choose an out-and-back distance that suits them (many will enjoy 10–17 km total), taking time to soak in the scenery and keep an eye out for birds and other wildlife. Easy exploration focus, not a forced march.
- Monday – Departure
Pack up and head home at your leisure after a great weekend of casual riding and camping.
Bicycles & Safety
Mountain bikes, gravel bikes, and hardtails are preferred for the mix of paved paths, light gravel, and natural-surface trails. Class 1 pedal-assist e-bikes are welcome, but the use of any throttles is not allowed while riding.
Every rider must wear a helmet and use a reflective vest or bright clothing plus a bell on the bike. All participants shall obey the rules of the road and Alberta Parks cycling regulations (stay on designated trails, yield appropriately, ride in control).
Please bring a spare tube, patch kit, tire levers, and basic tools so you can handle any flats yourself. Pack road snacks that provide steady energy and make sure you stay well hydrated throughout the rides.
This is a free event—no fees are collected. It’s designed for cyclists who enjoy casual, social riding rather than competition. Whether you’re an experienced rider looking for a relaxed multi-day getaway or newer to group events, you’ll fit right in.
Ready to join us on the trails and around the campfire? Head over to the Circuit Cycle & Sports website right now, fill out the RSVP form for this Long Lake weekend, or complete the Join The Group form if you’d like to become a regular member. We can’t wait to ride with you—spaces fill as campsites are confirmed, so don’t wait too long. See you at the lake!
